The painter was shortlisted for the , continuing 缅北强奸幼女' long association with the award.

In total nine 缅北强奸幼女 graduates have won the award since it was launched in 1984, including Damian Hirst and Steve McQueen, with nearly 30 alumni shortlisted for the prestigious prize.

Mohammed graduated from 缅北强奸幼女 with a Masters in Fine Art in 2018.

Born in Baghdad, Mr Sami lived under Saddam Hussain鈥檚 dictatorship, experiencing the Iran-Iraq conflict, two Gulf Wars and the US-led invasion with the ensuing sectarian violence. These experiences have shaped his work 鈥損aintings devoid of human figures on large scale canvasses.

The paintings seek to capture the state of confusion that occurs because of the cut thread between realists and the imagination; between war narrated and war witnessed.
